August is a month for Prompts #9
8/9: Pepsi
An odd thing occurred on a starry night in Melpo’s mountains. An aluminum cylinder wrapped in a blue film with a simple white and red circle printed on it appeared on top of a rock.
The odd can perspired as water beaded on its surface and left a trail as it slid to its base.
A wheezy breath trembled and a haggard plush paw rose from behind the can. A small purplish-blue plush beaver with a bicorne hat collapsed.
“Oh Flow, how cruel thy must be. I have searched high and low to quench my thirst yet it has evaded me,” Gunther whined.
The tab spontaneously cracked open and the crisp sigh of a carbonated beverage filled the air. A sweet aroma lingered and a slight breeze caused it to waft over to Gunther. His tail ascended in response and began to fan the scent to his nose. Adrenaline coursed through his tiny body, revitalizing the fluff and stuff inside him as he tumbled towards the source.
The intoxicating aroma of the artificial sweetened syrup was heightened by the sizzling hiss that rumbled quietly from within.
“Blimey,” Gunther whispered. “Do me eyes deceive me? Can it be? Treasure fer me?” Gunther’s eyes sparkled like stars and he read the white words printed on the side of the can, “Pep...si?”
Not a moment later his tiny fingers wiggled and wiggled before he snatched the Pepsi can up from the rock and tilted his head back. His eyes turned from stars to hearts as the ice cold beverage poured into his mouth. When it was all gone he sighed with satisfaction and wiped his mouth. However, he wasn’t expecting the sudden gathering of bubbles that erupted in his gut and caused him to belch. Gunther looked down at the can as a tear welled up in his eye before cascading down his cheek.
“Oh Flow, this Pepsi must be some kind of confectionary delight. I must share this with the masses!”
“No can do dear,” a voice familiar to Gunther declared.
“Why not Captain Mine?”
“Pepsi™ is a brand and doesn’t belong in Tucy.”
“Ha, then how do you explain this?” Gunther thrust the empty can forward.
Captain Mine snapped his fingers and the can disappeared.
Gunther fell to his knees and cried out to the heavens. Mine rolled his eyes as Gunther sighed, “I’ll never forget you.”
“Wanna go to Vicky V’s?”
Gunther’s eyes gleamed and he jumped on Captain Mine’s face, “Shiver me timbers Captain! I’m famished and Vicky V’s Diner sounds downright delightful.”
Captain Mine and Gunther disappeared with a snap as another Pepsi can appeared in the Melpo mountains. Maybe Pepsi does exist in Tucy.
Stay Tuned…
