8/11: Mug Redux 2
The smell of coffee brewing wafted through the two story home of the Black Family. The sweet scent of roasting coffee beans filled her nostrils and as she embraced the new day...
Crash!
The sound of glass shattering, metal clinking, and chairs scraping the floors echoed through the house, shattering the serenity and peace. Maribel’s eyes widened, she slipped out of bed and made her way to the kitchen. The sound of a hyenas cackle rumbled like roaring thunder. She approached the door, slightly opening it to peer inside. It was as she thought.
Her six foot seven husband stumbled and crumbled, as he slumped against the cabinets and groaned, “Where could it be?”
Maribel covered her mouth to stifle the amused chuckle in her throat. He jumped up and tore open the refrigerator doors, “There you are...” he roared but was deflated instantly and moaned, “Not.”
Instead of sadness creeping over him, a dark sinister aura began to swirl at his feet. His thick neck and broad shoulders flexed and black spots began to appear as his jaw slackened. His teeth became canines and his breaths raggedly turned to a familiar threatening crackle. He yelped like a hyena. Maribel couldn’t hold back anymore and unleashed a hearty guffaw.
Sylvester Black stood in the decimated kitchen, each of his breaths caused his mountainous back to heave and saliva to leak from his lips. He whipped around to his wife’s laughter and growled, “Where is it?”
Maribel was so tickled by her husband’s appearance and behavior, she couldn’t speak as tears streamed down her cheeks and her stomach ached, “Where is what?” She managed between breaths and laughter.
“My mug! My favorite mug,” Sylvester barked.
Before Maribel could respond a dragon made of light burst from within her and rose overhead. “Watch your tone puppy!”
Sylvester growled threateningly at the manifestation of light before him.
“Enough,” Maribel finally said, “That wasn’t nice Shine.”
The light dragon shrank to the size of a gecko and landed on her shoulder, “I apologize my lady.”
Maribel walked over to the dishwasher and opened it up with a gentle tap of her finger. She plucked a mug with a gorilla on it wearing an apron that said, “Mornin Mr. Muffin.” From inside.
“My Mari,” Sylvester sighed as he swooned over his wife and dipped her head back before leaning over her, “My beautiful goddess, woman of my world, ruler of my love!”
Maribel was unimpressed by his smooth words of affection, she rolled her eyes and clicked her teeth, “Good luck with the clean up, Mr. Muffin.”
She unwrapped herself from his tight embrace and sauntered over to the counter. She took her Mrs. Muffin mug and took a whiff.
“Mmm”, she hummed as she took a sip. She looked at her husband, batted her lashes and blew him a kiss. He remained breathless in the middle of the demolished kitchen looking at his mug, then at his wife’s delectable rear as she disappeared.
